I’m so excited to share this elegant and charming engagement session because it was my first real session on film! Prior to 2023, I hadn’t shot film since my college party days in the early aughts and of course back then, it was a cheap Olympus camera with 35mm film on full-auto. And developed at the local drug store! I’ve loved the look of film for the past few years. Now I’m finally in the headspace to take the plunge and try it out and become a Denver engagement film photographer.
My Contax film camera arrived in January and I’ve been experimenting with Kodak, Fuji, and Ilford black and white film. I’ve always had a strong love for black and white images. Especially the slightly-out-focus grainy ones. I’m still figuring out how I want to use the color film and how to work film, in general, into my workflow that had, over the past couple of years, become so efficient. In a digital world, I think the most challenging aspect is the lack of instant gratification and feedback.
About the Couple
But onto this stylish couple, Catie and Liam are both professional dancers with the Colorado Ballet. Catie grew up in Jacksonville, FL, and Liam grew up in Houston, TX. These two met at Houston Ballet’s 2015 Summer Intensive when they were teenagers. They were partners in pas de deux class on the first day (I love this!). Their first date was at the movies to see Jurassic World. After that, Catie and Liam were inseparable all summer and then continued a LDR (long distance relationship) for two years! Both admit that they met so young but were so sure about each other right away.
Liam proposed to Catie on their trip to Paris last summer! Catie says, “It was so romantic, he took me to a beautiful park and proposed in a temple over looking Paris.” They had such an amazing trip together. And they have always known they wanted to get married and just recently tied the knot in St. Augustine, Florida.

“Mary Ann was an amazing photographer to work with! One of our requests was assistance in posing and she did amazing! We also requested an Italian vibe to our pictures and she took that into consideration in every single photo. She was so kind, thoughtful, detailed and we had such a fun session with her. Loved the edits on all of our photos and couldn’t have asked for a more amazing photographer to work with.” – Helena K.
