For this Cherry Hills Village family session, the weather decided to keep us guessing. We started beneath a blanket of clouds. Then, about ten minutes into the session, a little Colorado rain rolled through. Thankfully, it passed just as quickly as it arrived.
Soon, the clouds returned. Finally, as we wrapped up the session, the sun broke through with the most gorgeous light. In other words, it was a very Colorado evening.
A Relaxed Cherry Hills Village Family Photo Session
Reganne and Jackson came to their session with Sadie and River, and they are the kind of family who knows how to go with the flow. They describe themselves as glass-half-full people who are almost always laughing and rarely sitting still for long. They also brought another reason to celebrate: they are expecting their third baby. They arrived beautifully dressed, which added an elevated feel to the photographs while still allowing plenty of room for movement, laughter, and connection.
Family Photos That Feel Natural
The best family photographs do not always happen when everyone is looking at the camera.
In fact, some of my favorite images from a family session often happen in between the more traditional portraits. A child runs ahead. Someone laughs. Parents pull their kids close. Siblings interact without being prompted.
Those moments tell a much bigger story.
That is especially true when photographing families with young children. Rather than expecting everyone to sit perfectly still, I like to give families room to move, explore, and simply enjoy being together.

And when the sun finally appeared, it was worth the wait.
The final minutes of the session were filled with warm, beautiful light. The kind of light that makes you want to keep photographing just a little longer.
