As a Denver engagement photographer, I have the privilege of documenting so many unique love stories. Anna and Caleb’s story is one that feels especially meaningful.
Both originally from North Carolina, they first met in college before life eventually took them in different directions. Years later, they reconnected after moving to Denver, and the rest is history.
Last October, Caleb proposed at the top of a hike along the Colorado Trail. To make the moment even more personal, he had Anna’s ring custom-made using family stones from both sides of their family. This thoughtful detail perfectly reflects the kind of couple they are: intentional, grounded, and deeply connected.
They’ll return to North Carolina this October to celebrate their wedding with family and friends.

A Colorado Engagement Session with a Denver Engagement Photographer
We met on a warm evening in late May for their engagement session in Golden, Colorado. The weather was beautiful, but it was the light that truly stole the show.
Soft sunlight poured across the open fields and rolling green foothills, creating a dreamy backdrop for their portraits. Meanwhile, the surrounding landscape offered everything I love about photographing couples in Colorado: wide-open views, natural beauty, and incredible depth.
The overall feel of the session was understated and elegant. Anna and Caleb have a quiet refinement to them. Their connection doesn’t demand attention, it simply draws you in.
Anna wore a beautiful white embroidered dress that moved effortlessly in the evening breeze and complemented the natural scenery perfectly.

Why Golden, Colorado Is Perfect for Engagement Photos
Many couples searching for a Denver engagement photographer are surprised by how many incredible locations exist just outside the city, without having to drive to Vail, Estes Park, or Aspen.
Golden offers:
- Beautiful foothill views
- Open meadows and fields
- Mountain backdrops
- Easy access from Denver
- Gorgeous sunset light throughout spring and summer
As a result, it’s one of my favorite areas for engagement photography near Denver.

Beautiful Evening Light in the Colorado Foothills
One of the most important elements of any engagement session is timing. For Anna and Caleb’s session, we photographed during the final hours before sunset. Consequently, the light was soft, flattering, and incredibly dimensional. The warm glow against the green landscape created a timeless look that felt both romantic and natural.

What to Wear for Engagement Photos in Colorado

A few recommendations include:
- Neutral or soft color palettes

- Clothing that complements the landscape
- Timeless pieces that won’t feel dated years from now
Anna’s embroidered white dress was a perfect example. It felt elegant, effortless, and beautifully suited to the location.
