Jade and Kyler traveled all the way from Wichita, Kansas, to celebrate this season of life with a Colorado mountain engagement session, and the evening couldn’t have been more beautiful.
A Colorado Mountain Engagement Session at Lake Dillon and Loveland Pass
We began their engagement session at the peaceful shoreline of Lake Dillon before making our way high into the mountains. By sunset, we were standing nearly 12,000 feet above sea level at Loveland Pass, surrounded by endless views and the kind of summer weather photographers dream about.

Jade and Kyler have a special connection to Colorado. One of their very first trips together was to nearby Frisco, and they’ve continued returning ever since. After meeting online while Jade was home from Kansas State for the summer, the two quickly became inseparable. Earlier this year, Kyler surprised Jade with a romantic proposal during a trip to St. Thomas, making this Colorado adventure the perfect way to celebrate their engagement in one of their favorite places.

July is one of my favorite times for Loveland Pass engagement photos. While many mountain locations are still holding onto patches of snow earlier in the season, midsummer offers a beautiful balance of green alpine tundra, colorful wildflowers, comfortable temperatures, and easy road access.
We were especially lucky with the weather. Colorado mountain conditions can change in minutes, but this evening gave us clear skies, plenty of light, and calm winds from beginning to end, allowing me to incorporate my drone, creating a perspective that simply isn’t possible from the ground. Seeing Jade and Kyler surrounded by the vast Rocky Mountains from above perfectly captured the scale and beauty of this incredible location.

One of the reasons I love pairing these two locations is the incredible variety they offer in a single evening.
Lake Dillon provides calm water, mountain reflections, and a relaxed atmosphere to begin your session. Then, less than an hour later, Loveland Pass offers dramatic alpine scenery high above the treeline. Together, they create an engagement gallery that feels diverse while still telling one cohesive story.

Loveland Pass sits at nearly 12,000 feet above sea level. Even if you’ve visited Colorado before, it’s important to stay hydrated, dress in layers, and take your time walking between photo locations.

The light at sunset is absolutely spectacular. As the sun drops behind the surrounding peaks, the mountains begin to glow with soft golden light, creating some of the most beautiful conditions you’ll find anywhere in Colorado.
