Some Colorado engagement sessions give you a little bit of everything. Rachel and Liam’s Loveland Pass engagement session was captured on one of those late-summer August days that reminded us just how much variety Colorado can offer.
A Loveland Pass Engagement Session in Late Summer
We started at Lake Dillon on a late-summer August afternoon, where the sky was full of clouds with occasional sunshine peeking through. It was beautiful, soft, and very Colorado. From there, we headed higher into the mountains, eventually reaching Loveland Pass at nearly 12,000 feet. Rachel and Liam were incredibly easy to photograph. They’re sweet, playful, and very comfortable together. Most importantly, they made it easy to capture their connection without anything feeling overly posed.
Lake Dillon to Loveland Pass
For the first part of their session, Rachel wore a cute white two-piece with shorts. It was the perfect look for the relaxed mountain setting. We wandered along the shoreline before making our way up to Loveland Pass. The scenery changed dramatically as we climbed higher.
Loveland Pass Engagement Photos at 12,000 Feet
At nearly 12,000 feet, the temperature dropped quickly. The wind was very chilly, which meant bundling up between photos and embracing the elements when it was time to shoot.
Rachel changed into a beautiful white dress, which looked incredible against the rugged alpine landscape. The contrast was especially striking against the mountains, rocky terrain, and wide-open sky.
I had also hoped to fly my drone at Loveland Pass for a few aerial images. Unfortunately, the wind had other plans. At that elevation, it was simply too windy to fly safely. So, we made the most of what the mountain gave us instead.
A San Francisco Love Story in Colorado
Rachel and Liam met on Hinge shortly after Liam moved to San Francisco. Their first date was at a restaurant they would eventually live just one block away from, a sweet full-circle moment in their story. Now, they’re building a life together in San Francisco and enjoying plenty of adventures along the way. Their Colorado engagement session was another chapter in that story, with two very different landscapes in a single afternoon.
From the calm waters of Dillon Reservoir to the windswept peaks of Loveland Pass, their engagement photos are a reminder of one of the best things about photographing couples in Colorado: you never quite know what the mountains are going to give you. And that’s part of the fun.
