Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the most iconic places in Colorado for engagement photos, and it’s easy to see why this couple chose it for their session. For Jen and Andrew’s Sprague Lake engagement photos, we explored three of my favorite locations inside the park: Beaver Meadows, Moraine Park, and, of course, Sprague Lake.
Sprague Lake Engagement Photos in Rocky Mountain National Park
The variety made the evening feel like several sessions in one, with each location showcasing a completely different side of Rocky Mountain National Park. Even better, the changing scenery perfectly matched the excitement of celebrating this season before their wedding later this year.
Why They Chose Rocky Mountain National Park for Their Engagement Photos
Jen and Andrew traveled from Texas for their engagement photos before returning to Colorado for their September wedding at the Vail Wedding Deck.
Although they first met through a dating app while Jen was finishing her fellowship, Colorado has become part of their story. Both grew up skiing, and Andrew proposed in Lake Tahoe, making mountain landscapes feel like the perfect backdrop for this chapter together.
Beaver Meadows Engagement Photos
We began the afternoon near Beaver Meadows, where the mountain views immediately set the tone for the session.
This area offers beautiful open scenery without requiring a long hike. It also provides plenty of space to move around, making it a wonderful choice for couples who want a relaxed start to their engagement session.
The afternoon light paired beautifully with the surrounding peaks, creating timeless portraits before we continued deeper into the park.
Moraine Park Offers Some of the Best Mountain Views
One of my favorite stops inside Rocky Mountain National Park is Moraine Park.
The expansive valley creates an incredible sense of scale while still feeling intimate. During summer evenings, the grasses glow beautifully as the sun begins to drop behind the mountains. Wildlife is also common here, making every visit feel a little different.
For couples who love wide-open Colorado landscapes, Moraine Park is always worth including in an engagement session.
Sprague Lake Engagement Photos at Sunset
If there’s one location that never disappoints, it’s Sprague Lake.
The easy walking path makes it one of the most accessible locations in Rocky Mountain National Park, while the lake reflects the surrounding mountains beautifully during calm evenings. As the light softened, Jen and Andrew wandered along the shoreline, taking in the views while we captured some of the most romantic moments of the evening.
Sprague Lake photographs beautifully in every season, but sunset is especially magical. The soft light, mountain backdrop, and peaceful atmosphere make it one of the most requested locations for engagement photos inside the park.

Expect changing weather – mountain weather can shift quickly, even during summer. Bringing an extra layer is always a good idea.
Wear comfortable shoes – many couples change into nicer shoes once we reach each location, making it easier to walk between photo spots.
Reserve your timed entry if needed – depending on the season, Rocky Mountain National Park requires timed entry reservations. I typically schedule sessions after the timed entry reservation window, so you may not need one for your engagement photos. However, requirements can change, so be sure to check the current park regulations before your session.
