Spruce Saddle Lodge Wedding in Beaver Creek, Colorado

A Spruce Saddle Lodge wedding offers something that is hard to replicate anywhere else: a wedding day surrounded by the Colorado mountains, high above Beaver Creek. For Molly and Doug, that meant taking the chair lifts to 10,000 feet for a wedding weekend that felt distinctly like them.

Planned by Kelly Karli, their ceremony took place on the Beaver Creek Wedding Deck, with the reception just steps away at Spruce Saddle Lodge. Meanwhile, their dog Pickles made plenty of appearances, and personal details from their lives together were woven throughout the day. And, of course, there was plenty of mountain scenery along the way.

A Beaver Creek Wedding at 10,000 Feet

Beaver Creek is one of Colorado’s most beautiful mountain wedding destinations. Located in the Vail Valley, the resort offers an especially memorable setting for couples who want their guests to experience the mountains without sacrificing an elevated wedding experience.

For Molly and Doug, the day began at the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek. One of my favorite details from the day was sweet. Doug’s family gave Molly and Doug an heirloom handkerchief that had actually been his bonnet when he came home from the hospital as a baby. I photographed it alongside their other wedding details, giving something with decades of history a place in the beginning of their marriage. Those are the details I love most on a wedding day. They don’t need to be elaborate. They just need to mean something.

A First Look at the Beaver Creek Chapel Bridge

Before heading up the mountain, Molly and Doug shared their first look at the Beaver Creek Chapel Bridge. It was a beautiful way to begin the day. The bridge offered a more intimate setting before the energy of the wedding day took over. And, naturally, Pickles was part of the story, too.

Including a beloved dog in a wedding day can require a little extra planning. However, when they’re as important to the couple as Pickles clearly is, finding ways to include them is worth it. From the napkins to the portraits, Pickles had a presence throughout the celebration.

From there, everyone made their way up the mountain for the ceremony and reception. Instead of simply driving from one location to the next, the entire wedding party, guests, and vendors boarded the gondola and chair lifts. The result was a wedding day that felt like an experience from beginning to end. And once everyone reached the top, the views were spectacular.

The ceremony took place on the Beaver Creek Wedding Deck, a scenic mountain ceremony location surrounded by Colorado’s high country. At approximately 10,000 feet, the deck provides sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. It also creates a natural transition into the reception at Spruce Saddle Lodge, which sits right beside the ceremony site.

That proximity makes the location especially appealing for couples who want a mountain ceremony without asking guests to travel between multiple venues.

After the ceremony, guests made their way directly into Spruce Saddle Lodge for the reception. The lodge’s mountain setting provided the perfect backdrop for a celebration that was elegant but still completely at home in Beaver Creek. Outside, the surrounding peaks created an incredible Colorado backdrop. Inside, the details brought the focus back to Molly and Doug.

And there were plenty of details worth noticing. Their cocktail napkins featured Pickles, while other paper goods incorporated their connection to NASA. Their guestbook continued the theme with photographs and memories from their work and the recent Artemis II launch.

Because both Molly and Doug work for NASA and worked on Artemis II, these details weren’t simply decorative. They were a genuine reflection of the two people being celebrated.

A Beaver Creek Wedding Weekend

The wedding itself wasn’t the only celebration. The night before, Molly and Doug welcomed their guests at Grouse Mountain Grill in Beaver Creek with a taco bar. It was a relaxed way to begin the weekend before everyone headed up the mountain for the wedding the following day.

Together, the two evenings tell a much fuller story of their wedding weekend. There was time to gather with friends and family, enjoy Beaver Creek, and then celebrate high above the resort the next day.

Their engagement session included another important member of the family, too: Pickles. It feels especially fitting that their dog appeared in both their engagement photos and wedding celebration. After all, the best wedding photographs aren’t only about how beautiful a place looks. They’re about the people, places, and little pieces of life that make the day theirs.

Molly and Doug’s Spruce Saddle Lodge wedding was a perfect example of what makes Colorado mountain weddings so special. There were the obvious things: the views, a ceremony at 10,000 feet, gondola rides, and a beautiful reception at the top of Beaver Creek.

But there were also the things that could only belong to them.

That’s what made this Beaver Creek wedding more than just a beautiful place to get married. It was unmistakably Molly and Doug.
