Emily and Charlie’s Broadmoor engagement photos were a little different from a traditional engagement session. Instead, we spent about an hour together at The Broadmoor before their wedding weekend officially began.
The Broadmoor Engagement Photos with European Style
For this session, I wanted the setting to feel distinctly different from their wedding day. Since we would be spending most of their wedding portraits around the Parker Suite terrace and Cheyenne Mountain Lodge, the Lakeside Terrace was the perfect choice.
Lakeside Terrace Engagement Photos at The Broadmoor
The Lakeside Terrace has a beautiful European quality. With the lake, mountains, and views toward Broadmoor West, the setting has subtle Lake Como and Côte d’Azur vibes. Emily wore a chic, short white party dress. Meanwhile, Charlie wore a suit with a white button-down shirt casually unbuttoned at the neck. Together, they had an effortless European-inspired style that fit the setting beautifully.
Rather than repeating the locations we would use on their wedding day, this gave us something completely different. The result was a collection of relaxed, editorial portraits with Colorado scenery in the background.
Editorial Engagement Photos at The Broadmoor
After photographing around the lake and terraces, we headed inside the main Broadmoor East building. There, we changed the mood entirely. We finished their engagement session in one of the darker rooms, where I used handheld off-camera flash to create something a little more unexpected. The flash added contrast and energy to the final images. At the same time, the darker setting gave the portraits a more intimate, fashion-forward feel.
Ultimately, these Broadmoor engagement photos were about more than simply documenting a couple before their wedding. They gave us an opportunity to create portraits that felt like Emily and Charlie while also complementing the imagery we would create throughout their wedding weekend.
