I loved meeting Andrea and Brad on a lovely, calm summer evening. As a Boulder engagement photographer, there are so many beautiful spots to choose from for engagement photos. When Andrea suggested a gorgeous field with mountain views, I knew it would be perfect!

Andrea grew up in New Jersey and played all the sports (and classical piano)! She eventually committed to swimming and attended Stanford University in California. Brad, a small-town Texas guy, played soccer and football. And he was the first in his family to graduate from college to become a land surveyor.

These two met on a dating app a few years ago. Brad reached out to Andrea first, and they set a date. Andrea took a seat at the bar of West End Tavern in Boulder, thinking she was there first. A few months into dating, Brad informed her he had been his typical 15 minutes early but then waited outside until she was seated, thus establishing a promising track record of allowing her to think she had “won” all along.

They connected quickly and easily over faith and work, Andrea taken by Brad’s immediate openness and entrepreneurial spirit. She mentioned her love of French things, including wine. He shared his travels to Morocco, India, and Australia and enjoyment of playing his guitar. These two secured a second date a few days later. Brad remembered Andrea’s pontification around French wine and gifted her a bottle of Bordeaux “with a nice story” on the back. A few dates later, he divulged that he had never had wine until he met her. And he had just purchased a few bottles for her family’s upcoming Thanksgiving dinner from an importer with a funny name (Kermit Lynch) she had mentioned once on an earlier date. Andrew knew that Brad was truly an extraordinary man!

*Andrea’s ring is a gorgeous heirloom old European cut round diamond, set in a design by Erika Winters. As an owner of an heirloom OEC round diamond myself, I instantly recognize the unique cut (1890s – 1930s)! Even more, I love the chunky facets that were cut and polished to capture the most sparkle by candlelight!

*Photos shot on Fuji 400h and Portra 800, processed and developed at Photovison. After seeing the scans, I think I need to stick just to Portra 800 on overcast days. I’ve recently realized that I much prefer the colors in those lighting conditions.
