December is a beautiful month for a snowy, winter Aspen Colorado elopement at The Little Nell! When Julie and Rene contacted me for a session in Aspen, I was hoping they would pick this gorgeous overlook. On top of Aspen Mountain, via the Silver Queen gondola next to The Little Nell, these two shared their vows, exchanged rings, and signed their marriage license!
Julie is originally from Pittsburgh and received her PhD in political science from PSU. After doing a postdoc at Michigan, she started working at the University of Iowa. Julie has one daughter and loves being outside (hiking, sunbathing, running, walking her dog) and trying new things. Rene is originally from Texas and received his PhD in political science from Texas A&M. He started working at the University of Iowa after graduating. Rene has three children, is an avid Astros fan, and loves cycling.
Julie and Rene met at the University of Iowa while working together where they fell in love slowly over time. On Julie’s birthday, Rene told her that he wanted to take a walk around campus (where they have taken countless walks before). After saying many sweet things and talking about their love, he proposed.
These two love to try new things together and usually have one date night per week. Julie and Rene also like to travel together and hike, take walks, or ride their bikes. They have also taken trips to do 5ks, 10ks, or half marathons. Julie and Rene especially love just being cozy on the couch and laughing together. Their favorite trips were to Oregon and Montana (Yellowstone). Lastly, they also like to have family dinners with all of their kids. It is a little crazy, but also fun for everyone!

After our time at the top of the mountain, we walked back to Julie and Rene’s hotel, Limelight, for a few more sweet portraits.
